Smooth Waters for the Portagers
The reigning champion Chicago Portagers sent a clear message to the rest of the BLL this past week, storming out of the gates with three commanding victories to open their season. The Portagers dismantled the Milwaukee Muskies, Madison Milkmen, and the expansion Naperville Bobcats in a powerful display of offensive firepower and defensive strength.
Saturday: Taming the Muskies in Milwaukee
The Portagers began their road trip in Milwaukee on Saturday, June 28th, facing off against the Muskies. Wasting no time in establishing their presence, Chicago secured a decisive 16-12 victory to put their first win in the column. Led by the ever-motivated Captain #88 Bailey Smith, the squad demonstrated they are as determined as ever to build on last year's success and remain a powerhouse in the league.
Sunday: Dominating the Milkmen
Returning to the same venue on Sunday, June 29th, the Portagers delivered an even more emphatic performance against the Madison Milkmen. Chicago dominated the game from the opening faceoff to the final whistle, never showing a sign of letting up in a 24-12 victory. Goalie #51 Dave Leonard was a wall in the net, while Captain #88 Bailey Smith continued his stellar play, proving to be key factors in the win. The weekend trip to Milwaukee was deemed no threat to the well-oiled Portagers machine.
Tuesday: Smooth Sailing Against the Bobcats
The Portagers concluded their perfect run on Tuesday, July 1st, with a visit to the new Naperville Bobcats. Once again, it was smooth waters for Chicago, who jumped out to a hot start in the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to a 21-10 victory.
The offense was firing on all cylinders, led by a five-point performance from #88 Bailey Smith, who tallied 4 goals and 1 assist. #26 Chase Bruno was a key playmaker, contributing 4 points with 1 goal and 3 assists. The defense was equally impressive, with Goalie #1 Brian Larsen putting on a strong performance between the pipes and even getting involved in the offense with 2 assists.
With a flawless 3-0 record to start the season, the Chicago Portagers have firmly established themselves as the team to beat.
